What are the duties and responsibilities of those working in childcare jobs?
If you are working in a childcare job, your main focus is to provide a safe, nurturing environment for children (0 – 5 years) to be inquisitive, learn and develop as humans. The key duties of those working with children are:

- Keeping records and observations of children’s behaviour and progress

What qualifications do I need to work in a childcare job?
The childcare qualification that you will need to work in the childcare industry depends on what role you are looking for.
Early childhood educators will either need a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education or a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care. The difference between these is the length of study. A Certificate III typically lasts one year, with the Diploma taking two years to complete. Diploma-qualified individuals have more in-depth knowledge of childcare, with their pay level adjusted to reflect this. Through upskilling and years of experience, they can then step into the role of a room leader, assistant centre director or centre director.
Before and after school care workers will need to have, or be working towards, a Certificate III.
An early childhood teacher will need a bachelor's degree in either Education (Early Childhood) or Early Childhood Education.
A cook or chef in the childcare industry will need a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.
